A real problem with fat is when it lives centrally in your abdomen. This #TomTalk uses a model which illustrates 5 pounds of fat. This is called visceral fat, and it leads to metabolic syndrome problems like diabetes and hypertension. These are the problems that cause cardiac disease and sudden death. However, visceral fat is used as an energy source after bariatric surgery and, eventually, disappears. This will cause a patient’s health to dramatically improve. In particular, co-morbidities like hypertension and diabetes will resolve after a Laparoscopic Sleeve Gastrectomy.
