The Obalon Balloon System is the only FDA- approved, swallowable capsule for weight loss. It is a non-surgical procedure performed in our office that helps facilitate weight loss by taking up space in the stomach so the patient eats less. The placement of each Obalon balloon usually takes less than 10 minutes and does not require anesthesia.
Over the course of 3 months, 3 Obalon balloons are placed in the patient’s stomach, and after 6 months, all 3 balloons are removed through an endoscopic outpatient procedure using short-acting anesthesia. Over the 6-month treatment program, patients receive nutritional and behavior modification support. New eating habits and lifestyle adjustments should be made after the balloons are removed to maintain weight loss.
